Soooo… well I’m feeling ever so glum today with the horrible election result. This is pretty much today’s face:
I was really tempted to fall back to my comfort food of cornflakes sprinkled with raw sugar and chocolate powder and covered in scalding hot soy milk but that would have made for a boring MoFo post. And I KNOW I would have sat there staring at the milk going around and around in the microwave like that brilliant scene in Muriel’s Wedding where the mum makes the tea in the microwave. It was that kind of day. Anyway, I got the leftover macadamia cream out of the fridge, whizzed it up with some dates and a little maple syrup to sweeten it and plopped it on top of a giant nectarine. I love raw nut creams:
Rather summer-holiday, don’t you think? I had to avoid listening to news cos it ruined my tropical mood and made me look like this:
But to keep with the theme of imagining I’m off on Hibiscus Island, faaaar away from the awful reality of our new prime minister, I made a juice from pineapple, strawberries, orange and fresh basil. Then I decided to make it alcoholic and whiz it up with ice. Then realised I didn’t know which of Husband’s bottles of alcohol are vegan. He’s the drinks man, I rarely drink alcohol so I have never really bothered making a list. So I just put the juice in a fancy glass and had it plain and… healthy:
I have some busy days this week and not really sure how I’ll go MoFo-wise but so far I’m pleased that I’m having far more healthy foods than I have in the past few months. I do enjoy eating raw but not when it’s cold. I don’t think I’m ready to give up scalding hot cornflakes just yet.
You can just look on barnivore.com if the alcohol is vegan, it lists A LOT of alcoholic drinks.
It’s so sad that Australia has elected such a horrible prime minister.. so sad!
I forgot about Barnivore, thank you!
yep! I have barely watched the news today and hopefully will have the cds on most of the week – mofo is a great distraction from politics (if only I could say that about other life it is distracting me from)
I’m getting bogged down already with bookmarking awesome stuff and my plans for recipes are already going out the window because of all the great stuff I’m seeing elsewhere!
Oh I hear you re prime minister- totally depressing. But juice looks yummy 🙂
Thanks!
I came across your blog through another Vegan MoFo blog and I recognized your blog name. Apparently my boyfriend’s sister is married to a Greek and has a same surname (nearly!), Poulos! HEHEHE! Btw the macadamia cream looks yummy!
Ha! I did spell the ‘poulous’ bit differently by accident!
Your efforts with the nut cream are commendable. I, for one, reacted to the news by eating half a jar of chocolate peanut butter with a spoon and vowing to remain in Canada for the next three years. Say it with me now: “You’re terrible, Abbott.”
Oooh I’d like to escape overseas. Canada is gorgeous, lucky you!
Juice sounds delish!
You’re hilarious! Those Muriel pictures sum up my feelings exactly.
Arghh…I have not quite faced the truth. Because we are travelling and haven’t had much access to media via tv or newspapers, I’ve kind of been living in a little bubble of denial. Every time I log onto the net I read the news headlines and hear some other horrible story…this time about the Liberals wanting to log the World Heritage listed forest in Tassie in order to promote economic growth. Seriously? SERIOUSLY?!
I stopped reading and watching news a few months ago and it has been blissssss but when I turned on the tv to watch election stuff and saw news headlines on ad breaks, it was awful!
I’m sorry you don’t like your new prime minister. I don’t like ours either, if that helps.
Liking the nectarine with the “cream.” Yum.
thanks! Yep, our new PM is just awful in every way and just overall creepy 😦
